MFM House Numbering - routing to your doorstep

Postby antyong (retired) » Mon Dec 14, 2009 3:24 am

Hi guys,

Let's make our map able to route to the front of our house or office. Help us enter house number data into our maps. I had simplify the process of entering house number and hope to test it on our KL/Selangor map. Your participation is much appreciated.

1. Get a street directory that contains info on house number or You can also refer to Google Maps
2. Enter house number into Mapsource following the examples in the attached gdb
house.gdb

3. Send the gdb to me

Result based on the gdb:

Some simple rules to follow:
  1. Format: <left side number>;<right side number>
  2. Use "XX" to represent no house
  3. Follow the number of intersection.
    1. If street with no lane in between, "1-89;2-90" (example)
    2. If street with 1 side lane in between, "1-39-89;2-40-90" (example)
    3. If street start with access to main road, "XX-1-89;XX-2-90" (example)
  4. Waypoints MUST be placed at the start of a road
  5. Make sure the left numbers match the right numbers. Error: "1-39-89;2-90". Correct "1-39-89;2-40-90"
  6. The numbers MUST match the intersections in our map. If there is a side lane intersecting the street, numbers must be "1-39-89;2-40-90" (example) and not "1-89;2-90" (example)
  7. The numbering for several roads may be the same but Mapsource cannot accept waypoints with duplicate names. In this case, add another ";" follow by any dummy character. Example: "1-89;2-90;a","1-89;2-90;b"

Following these rules will enable our mappers to update their map automatically therefore saves their time

This is currently a test project. For KL/Selangor first. Sent to me.

If you want to contribute Johor house numbers, you can continue sending to Robo/Gerkeng. Once this test project is live, you can use the methods above to send to Robo/Gerkeng.

I've given just like bro Thiang did. But becareful about number 13, the owner change it to other number, for e.g. No 12A or other number. I don't know whether it is official or not. I still maintain the sequence, until further notice.

Bro, cannot draw like this, sorry :prayer:

This is because while drawing this way is easier to the human eye, it is very hard to do computer programming to read the start & end. My objective is to make this as simple as possible for the mapper so that we can improve the data fast (like our polygons  ) so I want the data to be read automatically and updated to the mappers' mp.
