When your VMAX is only 4.25v, the state of charge is very low. It could indicate that the battery was not retaining charge, or the charging was not effective or the protective circuitry is bad thus limiting the charge. Charge it (make sure you see Battery: Charging) for 5 hours and the battery will be fully charged (Done) then your VMAX should exceed 4.8v. If it does not reach this level, then one of the cells may be bad or the protection circuitry for the battery may be spoilt - in either case, a battery replacement is indicated.

If you switch your GPS to OFF, you will see the message "Battery Charging" for a few seconds then the screen will become blank.

Very hard to answer your question when the charging rate is not known. On the basis of a good USB connection from a lappy, it should be done in less than 4 hours (even from LOW BATTERY indication) if charging in the Diagnostic Mode otherwise you should suspect something wrong with the battery. In the Data Mode (when you see the computer icon on the GPS screen) it may take longer though I don't know how much longer as there is no way to know when the battery is fully charged. An external charger may complete the job in a slightly shorter time.

Charge it (make sure you see Battery: Charging) for 5 hours and the battery will be fully charged (Done) then your VMAX should exceed 4.8v. hmm.. I charged for more than 10 hours and its still battery charging. Then the Vmax was 4.9.. then just now when i open it. the Vmax is 3.8V.. How to change the battery? any idea?

I mean you switch off again after you see the computer icon. Even though your unit is off, it will turn on automatically when you plug in your USB cable.

I think your battery is bad.

Bro Fancheng's suggestion to DIY is good.

I am also interested to know where you can buy a battery that fits the space available. Please share the info when you have found one.

My battery is fine but if I can change it to a higher capacity one so that my battery life can be extended to more than 5 hours, I will be interested. I am sure if I shop for it in Shenzhen I can find one of higher capacity but in Malaysia or Singapore? That may be tough.

It will just restart and then the computer icon is shown again
