Just purchase a unit

The garmin salesman told me that the MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2009.2 is LOCK and will only be available for those who purchase the garmin unit from authorise distributors.

I told him I though MalSingMaps is a community maps and should be available for all users, but he claim that garmin has acquired the IP rights of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2009.2 and the copyrights now belong to garmin. That is why it will be lock and available for units that are from authorise distributors. :fire:

Hmm, Mr Antyong is right after all.

:rox:

Thanks for the feedback. I won't believe salesman talk 100%. He probably doesn't know about the agreement between MSM and Garmin. Still better to wait for MSM announcement :)

wonder if the agreement prohibits malsingmaps from releasing the version 2009.2 in any other forms as well. it would mean that no malsingmaps.com members can be given the maps at all, other than a downgraded version before ver. 2009.2... or san certain features/POI... or maybe the agreement says only the 'Mappers', 'Valued Contributor' be given, the rest can "kiss my ass" so to speak....

in this case, they better be putting up disclaimers stating this:
"while we certainly appreciate your POIs, etc contributions - whatever given shall be the sole property of us and no claims hencefore can be entertained nor be construed as giving you any rights to whatever maps that we shall generate/ produce for whatever purpose it may be for. You are also requested to observe the copyright's act by purchasing a valid & genuine map, available from Garmin at RM xxx"

Likewise, maybe we should also look at MFM to see whether this will apply in future too.... :finga:

If it is truth that garmin has acquired the IP rights of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2009.2 and the copyrights now belong to garmin, this said maps should be onsale very soon in garmin website or from garmin singapore distributor.

Hi Bro streetpilot77,

The road junction view available when using MSM map?, or only available when using city navigator? Interested to know that. In additional, how about 3D building view, is that available or if not, does this unit can cater for 3D building view in near future?

:tq:
