Unless you are an insider, you don't know that and making such speculation won't do any good.

Guys, you have to understand that getting free GPS maps either from MSM or MFM is not your right. We are all able to enjoy free GPS maps thanks to the generosity of the mappers who share their maps out willingly. And if a mapper decides not to share his map for free anymore, do we begrudge him for that? Do we praise only when we get things for free and condemn when things are not free anymore?

No doubt MSM and MSM maps benefited a lot from public feedback. However, the bulk of the mapping work is done by the mapper. For example, we built our East Malaysia map from the mappers' own work without much contribution from the public. The mapper, therefore, is the "controlling shareholder" of the map. He has the right to make any decision regarding his map. Whether he is wants to share this decision-making process with his contributors is up to him.

As community members of either MSM or MFM, you can decide whether to contribute anything to improve the maps. If you feel comfortable, contribute by all means. Otherwise, let others do the contribution.

Back to the issue of Garmin-compiled MSM map. No detail is out yet. It is still better to wait for announcements from MSM admins. O:)
