Quote from antyong.net :

"The most significant advantage of using Garmin’s compiler is the ability to quicken recalculation upon missing a turn. Other advantages include displaying the right roundabout graphic and lane assist graphics. Also, being officially recognized is a significant bragging right and a guarantee to community survival.

The price to pay is too heavy IMHO.

1. The maps will be locked. Not again!
2. Garmin determines when to release maps. No more weekly updates. Probably not even monthly updates :(
3. No more manipulation of POIs to create custom POI icons :(

The disadvantages affect the core of our activities while the advantages are merely nice to have. If we can only release our maps once or twice a year and at Garmin’s control, no advantage is worth it. It will not be a community map anymore. We become merely a map data supplier to Garmin. IMHO that’s nothing to brag about."

full capability of features like lane assist is something that is very nice to have for our MFM. The idea of working with Garmin is ok .. but the thing is .. the MFM updates we receive every single day comes from those who are willing to contribute freely. I believe this has been the base of all MFM versions we have since the beginning and it should always be the base of any negotiation or factor for any decision making. Its like taking from the poor and giving it to the rich. It just doesn't sound rite. The point is .. if we gave MFM updates to Garmin and Garmin in return still want to charge us for what we have contributed all this years .. its not a win win situation.

IMHO if Garmin want to work with MFM by all means but if they are gonna decide on when the maps are to be released then it will definately put a stop to the contributors who does it freely because the start of this forum was to ensure free maps. Now another plot is arising? When will it ever end. I say that if Garmin want to work with MFM then on win win terms. If the locking of maps and overdue release then MSM is already available. That's what make us different. Let's keep it that way... Garmin can never make better maps than MFM that's for sure. They are outsiders wanting to make a buck off the mapping.

licensing our maps to Garmin would be like anthony selling his soul to the devil! They would hve full control and the word "community" would be erased from MFM forever!
