I would definitely post in the 2 forums as indicated by both keong8260 and hayamaguchi. Both maps will benefit the community.

Yep. And some of us have been with MSM long enough to remember the earlier times when there were two KL maps. I remember preferring to post updates in Jmleng's KL Street Map because he tends to update faster than Antyong's KL Routable Map.

Datok, that was a millenium ago lah ... it was the race to be first at that time, but I lost out after Ant decided to go the sat image way ...

MSM's new map version 2.30 is out, and all the maptiles are still intact (including KL-R, NPM-R, EP-R and Perak-R). Any reason why MFM would have to start with only 4 tiles while the rest (including Singapore) have to be built from scratch?

Note that I support both forums and I'm looking forward to contribute to both MSM and MFM. It's just that from a neutral/external point of view, I find that it's a bit unfair when MSM can still use all maptiles while MFM can only start with 4 maptiles only. Wouldn't it be better for both MSM and MFM to use all the existing maptiles and we can start contributing to both sites based on the current improvements? Meaning, the difference between MSM and MFM should only be on the contributions made *after* the split.

*still looking forward to a Singapore maptile in MFM, and will still use, support and contribute to MSM*

I understand decision to allow SG-R, JOH-R and MNS-R source be directly used by MFM would have to be by their mappers, Jerome and Wsian, respectively. Currently I don't see that happening. So we'll have to come up with MFM own maps for those areas. Importing from what has already been done on OSM is also an option for MFM.

The mappers of KL-R, NPM-R, EPM-R and Perak-R have allowed MSM to release one last update of each of these maps with the ver 2.30 installer. Moving forward MSM will have to source their own data to map these areas

In the mean time, MSM can choose to continue bundling these last updates (whose development will be frozen) in their future installers.

Pretty sad, although it's already expected... :( So moving forward, we might need to combine MSM and MFM maps to get the full complete maps of Malaysia and Singapore.

Really hope that the mappers can have some kind of arrangement to "exchange" their map sources so both MSM and MFM can have the latest map for all areas. Wondering whether it is possible? :)

As I said, I don't see that happening. :-# But miracles do happen. O:)

Anyway, we don't have to exchange sources to make use of MFM and MSM maps together. We currently already can merge selected tiles from MFM with selected tiles from MSM, into one gmapsupp.img using gmaptool. If you really want to do so.
