The latest working firmware version can be installed when you first start-up your brand-spanking new E72 before any personal data or software is installed into it. No worries.

Thanks for the advice Bro waypoint. My thinking is that upon buying E72 ( which I have been eyeing for quite sometime ), I have to upgrade it to a better firmware - quite a hassle for a novice like me :)

Then again, at present, I am using 5130 which serves me quite well, hence I am thinking of "upgrading" to 5230 which has GPS :-'

Price-wise, E72 is also quite "heavy" although it doesn't cost an arm. :D

Anyway, still thinking... :-k #-o

after upgrading e72's FW to the latest one, my GMXT is more stable and i ditched OVI Maps soon after that. my only problem is that it will take a very long time to lock on sats. most of the time, i had to restart e72 and only after that i can lock on sats immediately.

I think you have to 'self-sign' the installer first with a developer's certificate.

i got my E72 (white edition) in May 2010 and i dont need to upgrade the firmware at all. it already has the latest version installed (checked and confirmed). So i dont think you have to worry about the firmware updating at all. Even in future if you do, it's quite a hassle-free thing. It is built-in on the OVI software, even in the phone itself. Just a matter of getting a wifi connection to the internet, and click "update software".

Anyway back to topic, i have just installed GarminXT for s60 3rd (v5.0.0.50) with MFM maps at medium details (left all things default during map creation), everything installed into my memorycard. so far it doesnt hang. no problems at all, unlike reported by lots of ppl on various forums? hope i'm just lucky! :-k but anyway, did you guys ensure you have plenty of free RAM on the phone memory? i still have 2xx MB of free memory on the phone, and i think this is crucial for GarminXT to run properly!

Yea, you are right. We need more RAM in Mobile Phones as well as in Notebook, Netbook, etc, else the device would "hang" in the middle of .... :D
