Papago-specific Feedback for Penang, Kedah, Perlis

Postby Peter Yee » Wed Oct 30, 2013 4:00 pm

Hi Sir,
I noticed that the navigation from Macalister Road to Ghee Hiang on Anson Road is misdirected (Penang). FYI we CANNOT turn right. It is a ONE WAY street all the way to Perak Road. Please update. Tq.

Which point in MacAlister Rd?

Also, please state

  • which GPS you are using.
  • which version of MfM map you are using.

I am using Papago Z1 (PapaGO!S1.0 Build: Mar 15 2013). MFM PPG Version 8-10-13.
It seems that you CANNOT TURN RIGHT from Public Bank at Macalister Road into Anson Road. I set the Start Point at Public Bank at Macalister Road and Set Destination at SMK Methodist Girls School. I was directed by the route to TURN RIGHT which I can't do so. I could only turn left to Perak Road. Tq.

Start of Route: N5.41544 E100.32608 (Public Bank Macalister Rd)
Destination: N5.41774 E100.32163 (Ghee Hiang Biscuit Macalister Rd)

Tested with Garmin MapSource (MFM-Garmin 131021):
Routes OK.

Tested with Papago H5600 (April 2013 map):
Route includes turn right from Macalister to Anson.

Conclusion: Papago map issue. Will escalate to MfM Papago map team.

Dear Sir,
From the Papago mapsource (MFM-PPG-S1-131106), the map issue has yet to be resolved. Tq.

Since the entrance of Ghee Hiang is along Jalan McAlister which is a one-way street going in the opposite direction of where you are heading, you cannot access Ghee Hiang from Jalan Anson even if you are allowed to turn right. Your only choice is to turn left to Jalan Anson then right to Jalan Perak and back along Jalan McAlister. You may take a short-cut through Jalan Nirvana and Jalan Eow Thoon though so the routing in the latest map is correct. Hence when the Papago map is updated with the latest data, it will be correct too.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply. I am familiar with the route you have just mentioned. The issue is not whether i am heading for the entrance to Ghee Hiang. When i did a simulation test from Public Bank (Jalan Macalister) to Jalan Logan, i was directed to turn right. It will be a cause for concern for someone who is not familiar with the road direction. Especially during the late evening. There ought not to be a hint to turn right. Tq.

Jason, Peter's right.

The issue is that Papago is guiding users to do an illegal right-turn from Macalister (town side) to Anson (MGS side), whereas Garmin will not.

I've been busy so I haven't been able to pass this info on to the MfM Papago team, and even when I finally do, there's no telling when this issue will be resolved.

Moral of the story: Don't believe everything your GPS tells you!

Bro moeyhc,

Take the bus or taxi lor.....

Or use only Garmin device.... :-$

But jokes aside, it is a concern that someone from out of town might just follow whatever the GPS tells him and her to go to, despite our disclaimer. So it is best to get it fixed now that it has been highlighted... I know how it feel as I went for a unplanned sightseeing drive recently due to an error in the map..
