Can I download OSM maps and use them directly in NavDroyd ?
No, NavDroyd uses our proprietary MicroMap files (highly compressed binary spatial map databases) which are created from OpenStreetMap sources but don't share the OSM format/structure. The MicroMap compilation process involves many semi-automated jobs running for many days on many servers.

Shouldn't be a problem to convert MFM source into OSM format, but you still need the compiler to convert them into MicroMap files.

if i read correctly looks like they upload the osm file to their server to convert to their own format

I rather MFM map is released pre-compiled. OSM format just allow anyone to 'infringe' MFM intellectual property.

any members here active in open street map ?

there're still a lot of empty areas in the malaysia map.

mapping in osm is very easy now especially with the online map editor potlatch 2. create an osm account and you can start mapping immediately.

your work will be updated almost immediately, furthermore, you can link it with facebook to 'show-off' your work to your friends.

Better to use JOSM to map offline which is editable prior to uploading. :D
