convert to andnav format

Postby tyj82 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 5:03 am

Micromap is not free. looking into andnav format now

Anyone know how to convert mfm to micromap (retaining the POI).

micromap - is map supported by most opensource application and can be use on android gps phone.
http://www.onestepahead.de/index.php?op ... &Itemid=62

Andnav, trekbuddy and etc supporting micromap.

Why I need this be working ?
Been using windows mobile phone(Garmin mobile XT on MFM) since 2003 till recently I about to change to android phone. It seems like there is no good navigation software for android platform. I really hope to be able to convert mfm map to micromap support by many open source mapping.
I have been using GMXT for navigation almost once every week.Cant really live without it.
Last hope is to get Garmin devices hidden in my bike so i get to navigate when i need it urgently.

its amazing...
with Micromap Technologies (M4) GPS Trajectory Compression
can compress raw NMEA & GPX to 92-95% tobe 5% umdb data compression

if you record your track with nonstop Drive for Fully 1 Year Driving
then total size of a 1 year non-stop drive data record is as low a 5 MB.

i thin'k Micromap should be the best in future GPS mobile technologies..
and MFM sometime worth considering to migrate to this cuting-edge technologies..

i think i made mistake.. the micromap is not free/opensource. Listed as proprietary

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android.

Now I am looking at osm file format.
i saw it is possible to convert from img -> mp -> osm

there is another way go get garmin map into andriod

Converting img to png.andnav
http://wiki.trekbuddy.net/index.php/Tut ... _Trekbuddy

Anyone can try this.
I going to try this in 2 month. I wonder if i managed to convert it. Can i distribute it ?

i am not sure mfm allow this to be done. I hope i do not violate the T&C

the micromap is not free/opensource, Listed as proprietary for license, but they give their maps for FREE.
even Garmin & Papago was not free license, and not have officially free Map also (only free map from community like us)
if we can convert our gpx & mp files to UMDB & run in MapDroyd & TravelDroyd then we can get another format of our Free maps

as long as you mention it is MFM map maybe it's not violate the T&C :-k
or, you can keep by your self & not publish it before obtaining permission from our Sifu :nutz:
but for future develops you can share yours to our mfm mapper & to anyone interested to develop our map.
