Road to Cameron Highlands

Postby alyem » Fri Jan 01, 2010 1:47 am

Tapah - Cameron Highlands or Simpang Pulai - Cameron Highlands ???

We have lots of discussion about which is right and which is wrong??

Tapah - Cameron >
1-Narrow, Winding and Dangerous
2-Landslide during raining
3-Lots of buses and pickup trucks/lorries
4-Take longer time to reach Brinchang

Simpang Pulai - Cameron >
1-Comfortable with better scenery
2-Above 40km longer distance
3-Time about the same to reach Brinchang.

Why MFM maps does not take Tapah - Cameron route??
> MFM has set it intentionally by going through the Simpang Pulai - Cameron road for the safety of everyone.

How?
> by setting the Tapah road to 20km/h

Will MFM change back the route from Tapah - Cameron?
> For Safety reason .... I vote NO

Of cos, those who are near Tapah or Ringlet will take Tapah - Cameron road.

The MFM route from Simpang Pulai to Cameron are more for Travelers.

If you are coming from KL, the Tapah-Camerons route will be available to you if you set your Route Preferences to Shorter Distance.

My Misus always ask me why I need to put on the GPS to go home or to go to a familiar location. In my mind I ask the same question for sometimes I even overide the GPS recommended routing cos I know better.

It is the same here. For a person who has never gone up CH, then I would (like MFM) recommend the Simpang Pulai route because of the reasons stated.

But a Tapah local would take the old route and ignore the MFM recommended route because it would take them further. A local would know the route better. In the first place I would use my Misus' argument - Why would a Tapah local use a GPS to go up CH.

I say MFM is right.

I drove up to Cameron Highland last year and my friend recommended me to take the Simpang Pulai road rather than Tapah. My last trip to Cameron Highland was more than 20 years ago and I remember using the old winding and narrow Tapah route. So, despite being further up (70 to 100km further??), I didn't mind the extra distance for it offered a leisurely and scenic ride with wide and less winding road. Besides being safer, there was less traffic on this route. Worth the extra mileage chosing Simpang Pulai.

I think i will try Tapah if i drive a reliable car and wanted to try it handling and the guts feels of driving through those bends, up slope, down slope...overtaking.....etc, but of course, for leisure sake, i will still use Simpang Pulai
