IMO, for nokia platform, nokia ovi maps is a lot more faster and smoother than garmin. the bad thing is there are too little POI, rendering it useless.

Not only less POI, but the routing error really horrible

the nokia map always north direction, when u drive south, the cursor move down. Not like Garmin, can set to driver direction. Garmin do better la~

in the previous version of ovi maps, the map wil auto-rotate according to the direction you're heading, i loved it but too bad it was chargeable then. now that they're giving a free version, they took away that feature, so it was quite a pity, else it'd have been a pretty good top-down navigator.

ovi responds quite timely and less laggy, route recalculations are quick (despite the poor route suggestions) compared to garmin, but still i prefer garmin for the simple interface and the map support here at mfm.

Well, after downloading it last week, I tried it this morning with the 'English-Surfer Dude' voice I downloaded, it was fun. However just like the map last year, it cannot recognise the DUKE Highway (from Damansara to Kepong)

Still, its a great step ahead for Nokia. I pity the ones who paid for the monthly subscription in 2009.

OVI MAPS NOW FREE FOR NOKIA!!

Postby vash_h » Tue Jan 26, 2010 7:32 am

hey guys.. have you guys heard? nokia made ovi maps free for nokia handsets..

http://maps.nokia.com/explore-services/ ... #/default/

that includes navigation too!
currently available for certain models.. such as X6, n97mini, e72, e55, e52, 6730, 6710, 5800 & 5230.

you will require the latest firmware for your phone, and the latest ovi maps (to remove the navigation license thing)

after installing the latest ovi maps, i gave it a try.

i must say.. the interface is beautiful.. i love it.. also have 3d views in certain areas.. and is 100% free!

however, yesterday i tried to search for tropicana city mall.. dont have leh.. sigh.. rupania, ovi maps's is really outdated. looked up nokia's maploader, the whole malaysia map is only 28mb.. while singapore itself is 7.98mb..
