GPX Logger

This is a very lightweight app for Android devices with only one objective: To record GPS tracks saved as GPX files. Very small memory footprint (750k). All you need to do when you want to start tracking is to press the Record button and to press the Stop button when you want to stop. Later you can retrieve the GPX track files from the "GPX Logger" folder of your phone. You can explicitly set the recording frequency to 1 sec and also set the minimum distance to record (so that it doesn't record redundant points while you're waiting at traffic lights, for instance).

I prefer this app to Google's My Tracks because GPX Logger is capable of true 1-second tracking whereas My Tracks will only have occasional 1-second tracking at best. My Tracks does have the advantage of being able to record waypoints however.

Pros
 • Lightweight, only 750kB
 • Straightforward interface. Press Record to start tracking; press Stop to stop tracking
 • Internet connection not needed to track. Doesn't access the internet unless you want to view the track against an online map.

Cons
 • Cannot save waypoints while tracking.

Bro Sobamy,

I have tested this for the past few months and found that the trackog and accuracy is better than PND , locking to the satellite also quite fast even though we are inside the building the weak point is we cannot set the waypoint

Hi Bro Rona

Totally agree with you. Just tested the tracking feature and it sure is accurate as it said it is.

Regarding waypoint capturing, you can use "manual capturing" method, ie., stop in front of shop and write down its co-ords. This is cumbersome and tedious if you have many POIs to collect.

Another method is to use Geotagging which I have been doing with My Tracks. Geotagging also works with GPX Logger.

To preview the tracks in the mobile phone prior to extracting it to Mapsource/GPSMapEdt, I use GPX Viewer (from Google Play Store). GPX Viewer (about 780kb) is useful for checking the raw tracks.

I have encounter logging date time problem with gpx logger. but not sure if is my setting problem.
I found that the date format saved were not same as the behavior of garmin GPS.

1. first try.
GPX Logger setting- save time zone** option - not checked.

Garmin Map Source setting - Time set to -> use local time zone on this computer.

The problem is the time show is not correct. 8 hours is added to the time log.
ie. recoding time at 8am, and record show in mapsource is 4pm.
In this case i need to change the Map Source setting to ->Use Offset from UTC (0) to view the correct time.

2. second try.
GPX Logger setting- save time zone** option - checked.
The outcome is the file can not be recognized by mapsource.
the reason is the time tag. 2014-08-06T18:02:22.999+0800
the format read by mapsource is 2014-08-06T18:02:22Z

Seems like I am not able to use this app. but continue using My tracks.

Any brothers and sisters who know how to solve this issue please help.

Thanks a lot to bro tympg. It works perfectly

Just asking, is the difference in the time stamp an issue. I have no issue in left clicking the gpx file with the mouse to open in Mapsource.
