Newbie with HTC Touch 3G

Postby appaz88 » Sat Nov 07, 2009 7:04 pm

Hi all. First of all, I'm impressed with this forumn. I am very new to GPS & PDA's, so I need a little guidance!

I got my HTC Touch 3G second hand & it has MAPKING2007 installed. I was able to link up to GPS & get the software to work & get around Ipoh. My concern is I'm assuming the MAPKING software will not be kept updated & I want to ensure the software I have on my PDA is updated.

Do you recommend i down load the Garmin formatted map w/ MFM mapset??

Is this then new software for me to use? Then do I remove MAPKING?

When I download this Garmin formatted map w/ MFM mapset do I download directly from my HTC Touch 3G? or do I download on my PC first & then transfer??

Sorry about all the newbie questions, but thats what I am :)

Tom

Welcome to mfm, appaz88!

For the HTC, you'll need Garmin Mobile XT software if you want to use mfm Garmin maps. The mfm maps are updated very frequently and it's free.

What about the MAPKING2007 software installed in my phone now? I assume that this will not be updated correct? Does the MFM site give updates for MAPKING??

Currently, mfm only supports maps for Garmin and Papago, but not Mapking. There are threads here at mfm that discusses about the HTC. Please search for them in the forum for better understanding on how the mfm maps perform.

Omnia II Problem

Postby greeny » Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:32 pm

Need help from bros ..

I can never get a gps fix when running Garmin XT :( The acquiring satellites part takes ages to lock onto any satallites. What configurations must I use in order to have it working?
I've no such problem on my previous Omnia i9000 model.

Help highly appreciated.

Try this setup for your Omnia 2... it works on mine.

Go to General Settings - GPS
1) GPS program port : COM 7
2) GPS hardware port : COM 9
3) Baud Rate : 9600 ( works ok with me !!! )
4) Enable Manage GPS automatically ( Click ON )

Under Garmin XT - Click signal bar ( top left icon ) ]
1) MAKE SURE its COM7 : COM7
2) IF NOT then click disable button
3) Click Use serial GPS - set it to COM 7
4) Then Enable it back.
5) Click View Map then wait for few minutes ( cold start time frame ) .......should be OK !!!

Seems Omnia II GPS conforms to NMEA0183, Using Intermediate Driver should be better. It works for me.

Any comments ?

HTC Snap uses WM 6.1 OS and has a built-in GPS. So GMXT should work on it.
