Which DSLR and Lens to go for?

Postby edchuang (retired) » Thu Mar 18, 2010 8:29 pm

Hi all photography Sifus,

Thinking of buying a Entry/Upper entry level DSLR, more towards shooting close up portrait to full length portrait. Recommendation for Brand, model and lens is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :prayer:

At least Nikon D3000 la. But D5000 is slightly better with video. Slightly more expensive only.

If can afford... the D90 is the best for a price of about RM4.2k

I think the one 18-105mm zoom lense that comes together with D90 should be good enough. If you have a deep pocket, you can buy those fixed focal length lense with ultra-large aperture (eg <f/2).

However, I did come across the Panasonic Lumix GF-1 with its f/1.7 20mm pancake lense. It is a micro four third system camera - a compact sized camera with DSLR image quality. It is about RM3.3k. Super compact and solid with excellent quality. It is one of my favorite too.

The AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G. A super compact and lightweight lense perfect for focusing on a single object with a blurring-effect background.

But, friend, I really don't know how much is that lense is gonna cost you. It might cost a bomb to your pocket.

If you are serious, a prime lens of 50mm is what many pros would use.
