what do u guys think of oly ELP1? if coupled with pana 20mm pancake should be very portable & take good photos. theoretically speaking. but why do they make it more expensive than entry-level DSLR?
from Garmin Que for Pocket PC to Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile to Nuvi 205W to Papago M9 for Android & now Garmin Nuvi 2576.

i think because it's lens cost still very high as not many demanding in the market.
or maybe it able to shoot a high quality photo as DSLR and yet not for hobbyist used.

Yes the lense from Panasonic, the 20mm pancake (more so for the 14-140mm GH1's lense) is expensive, but it is also beautiful. Relatively, if you compare it with what other manufacturers has to offer, given the presence of its aspherical and ED lenses, it is actually cheaper.

Jeremaze, let me know what is the best price you can get. The best quote I got so far is RM3,299 for the 20mm. Free 8GB Panasonic Gold SD card, original Panasonic tripod, original Panasonic carrying case. Best of all, credit card payment with 12 months interest free instalment :D

The new E-PL1 is definitely a compact-sized camera with a good image quality that comes with an affordable price (about RM2.4k). I think it is very difficult to say that it will be better than any entry-level DSLR, but given its mirror-less construction body, lesser features, and slightly slower shutter, it still offers excellent image quality that is comparable to the more bulky DSLRs.

If you are going for only normal shooting, and size and weight is of your concern, this E-PL1 is pretty handy when you need it (though it has a cheap-plasticky-feel body due to cost cutting).

Anyway, anyone here owns or is into Sony's Alpha DSLR? I was looking at the A550 that comes with 50mm f/1.8 lense. It is on a special and limited promotion for RM2,799. Any comment?

To put things in proper perspective, I would not position the E-PL1 as a scaled back/down DSLR which it is not. I would also not like to compare it with the E-P1/2 or GF1.

It should be instead viewed as a large sensor compact camera. I believe that is exactly where it is.

Then you will see that the specification are high and the image quality is far superior to the other compacts. The image quality is certainly in the DSLR class. It behaviour is in the Compact class.
