Most people would prefer 817, if one that immerse into portable activities such as camping or jungle activities, because it can support 8 AA Cell battery input. Whereas, 857 doesn't support it!

I would prefer 817 if I'm king of outdoor. But I not a king of outdoor, therefore getting a 857 still do great portable amateur radio activities when I go to any hotel rooms... These babe can squeeze into my travelling bag with a simple wire act as dipole antenna and taking out and setup is easy.

So in conclusion..
King of outdoor - FT817
King of indoor - FT857

Cheers!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

If you believe that Transformer might just happen, go for 817...

Btw, radio hams must get ready for GE13....
Going by the recent state election where the internet gets switched off by you know who.... only radio waves will be the active channel.....

Thank you Richard. I could not find any fun in VHF though repeaters are growing like mushroom nowadays. Hardly can hear anybody on UHF too.

Would you mind to share your setup on your 857 during your travel?

How is your CW?

Nice to hear from you again. Have you immerse yourself in 6 m or 10 m?

TQVM and Merry Xmas to you.

Hi,

by using FT-817 or FT-857 for portable purposes, Both rig are OK..if u love easy & fast set up FT-817 is an answer, but both have pro & con..hi hi..if i, i will take FT-857 because we can QRO or QRP depend on battery supply that we have..u know, nowadays propagation changing very fast, so we need enough 'milk' to play arround..hi hi..anyway, we share the knowleagde & enjoy same hobby..

yaaahh!! so far, I didn't yet heard any info about 40m for class B..hopefully it's wouldn't take so long to make it happen..

p/s : sometimes I heard 9W6xxx at 40m.. hi hi

I have no interest in VHF Repeater too, unless something caught me where they discussing about Technical. There are I believe! some have talk about technical thing but overall judgement to me 95% is talk non of the technical thing.

I had move out to 6m and 10m HF communication. However nowadays being less active due to saltmine matters.

40M comes to Class B holder, I heard some progress.. but not sure when they will implement!

Happy New Year!

Cheers!

That good for u if u realize early, don't bother what people saying, just go to HF..a lots of thing u can learn from there..try to listen first (being SWL) then u get more 'orgasm' at there & more attractive & challenges..
