Re: DSLR - Choosing A Camera

hi bro

i know i shouldn't be kpc and meddle in this particular thread as i'm a newbie to photography and dslr, having just bought one. i've never owned a camera and not even a cameraphone...been toying with the idea of getting a camera and/or taking up photography. i too was apphrehensive over concerns of buying dslr vs compact point and shoot. took 1 year to read up and study every article i can lay my hands one. i finally bought sony's Alpha 550.

wait, before you all flak me (and i've taken quite a lot of flaks from friends, relatives, colleagues and even strangers when i mentioned i bought sony alpha 550), i'd like to share the following link with bro moey. even though the forum title is about alpha camera and gears, it actually give a lot of in-depth preview and review into cameras of all sorts of makes and models. in fact, there's even two articles reviewing comparison between canon, nikon and sony. that should be a good place to start.

up till now, i'm still :ko: when faced with lots of terminology but luckily sony gave us free workshop on photography and how to obtain the optimal use of the camera - so i'm satisfied with my purchase choice regardless of how other people ridicule or criticse me.

brother moey, do try this link and take your time to browse through - i learned a lot lurking at this alphamountworld forum.

Thank you guys for all the advice and tips on my dSLR purchase. Will keep in mind the fun factor, personal preference, capabilities, accessories available & cost. I do have some ideas of what to look for now and is also considering used units. Will keep you posted when I find anything interesting.... cheers!

bro moeyhc, please have a look at this magazine. The publisher is MAGBOOK, magazine title is "The Ultimate Guide to Digital Photography - updated 4th Edition" I found it in Popular Bookstores. I don't have the ISDN but there is a bar-code on the bottom right hand on the cover page, the bar-code number is 9781907232329. Price is RM. 19.90.

Very informative magazine especially if you are just starting out on DLSR just like me. Since I bought it, I have not put it down.... the website is http://www.magbooks.com/photography.

Thanks bro aikliang. Will check it out. I'm also asking if any friends have auditioned the Contax n-Digital DSLR. I like the Carl Zeiss lens. Rather expensive too...

I would only recommend either Nikon or Canon...

Nikon is a specialist only on photographic equipment and Canon is making many more things upto you printer...

Compare to cars... Nikon = Honda,, Canon = Toyota.. both are good... but...

For RM 10k... that's lots of money... I would recommend either a D300s (DX top of line) or D700 (full frame)

but .... you never find a Honda Taxi.. anywhere that why its exclusive just like Nikon.

I'm still waiting for the D7000 to show up here... no one seem to know when. :x

I have seen the D90, D300s, EOS 60D, 550D....etc. I also wrote to Nikon Malaysia and was told announcement will be made in Nov. As of now, the money is still in my pocket...
