i'm new here. i'm using nuvi1100 bought from usa. i just sent to shop to get malaysia map last 2 yrs. do anybody know how to update map? or install new map in my garmin?

actually my garmin nuvi 1100 using gmapprom format insted of gmapsupp. i remember last time when i put the map in i change the name from supp to prom.
just now when i replace the gmapprom to new version which is smaller in size, seem nothing happend and from map info shows MFM garmin 110430.. the old version...
and i dont understand the CPOI format is for what. i saw garmin CPOI in this web too.

please help.

gmapprom.img is one of files that can be read by the Nuvi. It is usually used by Garmin to preload map ( in your case, a USA map ).

We do NOT recommend newbies to use main memory as any corruption of map file can lead to a "bricked" unit
ALWAYS load maps in SD card/garmin to be safe.

There must be another map file that is for the older map 110430. It could either be gmapsupp.img, gmapprom1.img in main memory or an SD card with a gmapsupp.img file in /garmin

You have to do some housekeeping to sort out the files.

CPOI are custom POI that are not found in the main map and used to load the custom point of interest icons etc... into the main Garmin map.

Rule of Thumb : BACKUP before you do anything ..

Do not mess around with stuff in main memory if you are unsure.
Just delete all gmap*.img files in main memory
Load the gmapsupp.img into SD card/garmin from the downloaded MFM installer.

CPOI files are loaded in either main memory/garmin/POI or SD card/garmin/POI

You may like to put explain your problem in more detail.
What you mean by cannot open ?
Is mapsource running ?
Have you check if the map is located inside mapsource via the map pulldown bar ?

many thanx to moderator or Silverbeuty for guiding me to update map. the previous map was deleted (all img file) and replce with gmapsupp but rename to gmapprom for nuvi1100. again thanx

For Map Display Customization, I am not sure to choose "Full" or "Custom Polygon & POI". Can any brothers here please advise. Thanks a million.

Hi I'm able to open mapsource. How do i load the MFM map using mapsource?

cause when i click file > open, i cant select the MFM maps i downloaded.

It says the img file is not a valid mapsource file and could not be opened.

Sorry I'm not good with computer stuff..
