Hello friends,
I am a newbie to the site but have been a frequent user of GPS. Couple of contributions from me for great eating places in Penang.

1. Puspamalar Vegetarian N05 25.023 E100 20.341
For those who crave for typical home cooked vegetarian dishes, this residential turned restaurant opens for lunch and does catering. Their speciality includes baking vegetarian cakes.

2. Merlin Nasi Kandar N05 25.174 E100 25.174
Located at a junction, this building houses a hotel on the first floor which is called Merlin. The patrons in yester years use to dine on the ground floor at what use to be an Hailam restaurant. The place now runs one of the few tastiest nasi kandar dishes. They open from 10.30 till food is exhausted and they are only open for lunch. Lots of offices nearby hence afternoon is usually full and parking can be a nuisance. At times, finding a place to sit can be difficult too. Great food.

3. Great Thosai Joint N05 24.877 E100 18.644
Situated near the Penang General Hospital and its nearest junction includes Utama (Western Road) and J & Pasar, this stall serves nothing but thosai. Plain thosai, ghee thosai, rava thosai, appam manis and vadai's. Great hot beveraged is served as the drinks are prepared using fresh cow's milk (on request). The curry and chutney's are divine and the place is flocked by Indians, Chinese and Malays too. The "Malaysia truly Asia" example is sighted here. Good luck with the parking.

4.Penang famous Banana Fritters N05 24.156 E100 18.483
Some of the amazing foodstuffs you can find; where else can you get better banana fritters or goreng pisang but in Penang. Located not far from the Penang Free School, this stall (operated by Chinese) starts at 12pm and if you're lucky, the banana fritters will last till 1.30pm. Failing which you're only left with alternate goreng stuffs like keledek, nangka and stuffs. Mind you a bit pricey for stall standards but tasty.

5. Pall Sangam Restaurant N05 24.782 E100 18.927
Along Jalan Dato Keramat, you'll find lots of restaurants not worth visiting. Nevertheless, there is Pall Sangam which use to be an assembly for fresh cow's milk distributors to collect their ration and distribute ( i think...) The place opens very early in the morning and lasts till 6-7pm. Breakfast with choice of thosai and idli is available. Though food aint all that great, their speciality is bru coffee with fresh milk, tea with fresh milk and a traditional indian dessert called "kaseri" is absolutely divine. Shop cleanliness may not be all top marks and mind you there's a long bench which sits 8-10 pax. So be prepared to share the bench.

That's all for now. Will try to update for more location for eating outlets for Penang or northern region. I'm not from penang so anybody from penang who could stand to correct my entries above, be my guest.

Enjoy!!!

Appreciate if you could place the POIs in a GDB file in the future; it's easier for the mapper. Also, note how I've edited the coordinate format above - tympg
