How to combine MSM map and MFM CPOI

Postby louislkc » Wed Mar 05, 2014 11:34 am

Please help as I like the MFM CPOI because it shows me all the good recommendation of food, places while I navigate. Can some one let me know to combine MSM map and MFM POI to be able to read on my Garmin device.

At the moment, I have gmapsupp from MSM.
I tried to download CPOI MFM 20140125 into my garmin folder under POI.
When I check my garmin device under tools/map/info. I only see gmapsupp.
There is no C-POI MFM 20140125 in the map info.

Please let me know what I have missed .

Thanks in Advance.

Try putting the POI file in Main Memory/POI folder

Bro SB,

I think bro louislkc may be confused between cPOI and POI.

cPOIs are mostly alert triggers advising users of speed traps, red light cameras, etc, whereas POIs are related to food, petrol stations, just to name a few.

POIs are not stand-alone as opposed to cPOI which is a stand-alone file. POIs are built into the map proper.

Thansk Bro SB and Bro Sobamy,

I now understand the difference of CPOI and POI.
Actually, I am more interested in POI and how to let it display on the map from MSM . Please advise how to go about it.

I have installed MSM map in my SD card. The map works fine but only display petrol kiosk , supermarkets, banks. There are no POI for shop names, restaurant names etc.
How to make the map display such POI?

Regards.

On newer Nuvis, the display of POI during navigation is controlled by firmware to prevent screen clutter. My Nuvi 3790 has option to select POI to display but even with that it does not display much during navigation :fire:

What I do is to tap the screen once and zoom in for POI to show when I want to know what is around the vicinity from where I am now :ko:

If you like our POIs why not install MfM map. You can have both MsM & MfM map side by side but it is advisable to select only one for navigation.

Dear Moeyhe,

Thanks for your recommendation. I cannot install MSM and MFM map into my Garmin at the same time because both img file has the same name as gmapsupp. Please advise how to install both maps in the same SD card?

Regards.

You can start by letting us know what model of Garmin you have. To combine maps you need a program called Gmaptool.exe here.

Hope this helps.... Cheers!

Remember my first DOS base GMT join map program many years back... didn't foresee I need to write a procedure to do it again...

Here it goes:

- Download and install Gmaptool
- Open Gmaptool
- Click on Files>Add Files
- Browse to the folder that contain your map (*.img) select it.
- Click Ok
- Do the same for the next map you want to combine
- When you have finish selecting all the maps you want to combine Click Join
- Click on Output File and select the folder to store your combined map
- Enter Gmapsupp.img for Filename (this is your 710 default SD card map name) and click OK
- Click Join All
- When done go to the folder you specify to find your newly combined map.

Hope this helps... Cheers!

BTW, I couldn't find my DOS program.. any kind soul can point out the Link?...
