I believe, Antyong mentioned he will include Singapore. Perhaps at that time we'll have a new domain that singfreemaps.com that shares/redirects to malfreemaps.com . Or maybe a more encompassing domain say aseanfreemaps.com .

Hi guys,
I have been using MSM maps for a while now. Didn't know of the problem till now. Therefore I have been playing catchup in reading as much to understand.

I like to thank all of you for this noble deed that you are doing and I like the idea of including Thailand. I have not used your maps yet but will install and try.

Bravo. Bless you all. :tq:

I read the blog and the threads and I still catch no ball?

What's this about opensource and commercialising?

Actually you missed one other factor, hobby mapping. In brief, this is my take ...
  • MSM - users get free/locked IMG, mappers do commercial license of the source MP/SHP maps (who shares the license fees?)
  • MFM - users get free/unlocked IMG, mappers do for hobby (all pays for our own hobby)
  • OSM - all users can map, all gets the source OSM maps, all can reuse/compile into IMG or other formats, under OpenSource license.
So from mappers perspective substantial difference, from users perspective much less difference between the three.

Correct guys? :-k :-'

So in short, MSM is taking user contributions for commercial purposes, as they feel that they took the time to compile the user contributions?
But the commercial payout is not going to those who contributed?

Hmmm......that sounds bad. Also depending on what is the commercial payout. Too little split also no use. Might as well pour back into the community.
