Mapping of Banks POI

Postby Nicholas Chan » Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:34 pm

I was trying to use MFM to find myself a bank branch in Singapore but I realized the database is very scant. After coming back to the office, decided I would want to initiate my first POI project to map out all branches (not ATM yet, else too messy) of major banks in Singapore.

Here is the links to the map details, anyone wishes to help out? I would be starting on it this weekend as I am rather packed with work this week.

Standard Chartered Bank [Completed by ccplim on 31 March 2009]

I currently have Standard Chartered Bank and RBS in my project list and almost completing. I may be able to take up a few more if I have the time. :)

Please post up your progress so I won't duplicate the efforts. As mentioned I will only start on this over the weekend.

PS. May I ask if you can do me a favour and write up a short guide on how to properly name and make the POIs? I can research it but the working guides are scattered all around and I haven't got down to assembling the "how to contribute" guide. Thanks!

Just a quick suggestion for standardization of naming?

[BANK NAME] <IF ATM ONLY> [BRANCH LOCATION AS WRITTEN ON WEBSITE]

Meaning, a Maybank ATM located at Textile Centre will be named as:

Maybank ATM Textile Centre

While a Branch would be named as:

Maybank Chinatown

Just so that we wouldn't have a mess of categorization.

This is exactly the same method that I am currently using. However, I do noticed that not all branches have ATM (sounds weird but it's true). We might need to add some comments to indicate this.

Also, my habit is to add the address and telephone number into the comment field if they are available.

I will get back to you again on this later. Busy now #-o

Maybe any mapper(s) who read that this can advise? Do we have a standard convention to follow or will the mappers make any necessary changes when they feel that there's a need?

Yes, this is our naming standard, address and telephone number will be added if available.
Upload your contribution to MFM drop box if you don't want others to take your contributed tracklogs or POIs.
