Combining MFM-SRTM (Toppo) with MFM mapset(Road) - CATCH 20!

Postby rajabalak » Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:56 pm

Here is the quote from bros antyong:
"Users of Mapsource 6.15.x or later will find erratic road display on areas where contour polygons overlap roads. Therefore combining MFM-SRTM (Toppo) with the main MFM mapset(Road) is not recommended if you are using Mapsouce 6.15.x or later. Use Garmin Mapsource 6.13.7 if the latest Mapsource is too slow for your PC. Mapsource can be downloaded from Garmin website."

I have updated my Mapsource to v6.15.7, reversiing to v6.13.7 mean giving up the changes listed as below.

Any sifus can advise?

If I go ahead to reverse, is there any reliable source that I can download from, as Garmin site only offer the latest v6.15.7.

By the way, any brother fine the "erratice road display" and "too slow" bearable or not, if not that bad, will go ahead to use v6.15.7.

Hope bros antyong will do something to make latest garmin version compatible.

Mapsource Change History
Changes made from version 6.15.6 to 6.15.7:

I have both latest Mapsource & version 6137 installed on my laptop & PC.
Trick;
1. Install 6137
2. after finished installation, open Windows explorer (not internet explorer ya!), browse to C:\Program Files\MapSource, an look for file mapsource.exe. Change this filename to mapsource6137.exe. Then, manually create shortcut on your desktop.
3. Now, install latest mapsource. Now u have 2 version of mapsource \:D/

Reason of having both version;
1. some mapsets of other free maps do not support latest mapsource
2. latest mapsource sometimes give different route suggestion
3. latest mapsource give nice display - good for viewing pleasure :D

Downloaded MapSource v6.13.6 onto my laptop and using MFM toppo and road map,
have been testing it the last few days, everything work fine and faster.
Except one fault, the toppo lines was covered by the the toppo "color" in certain area, especially on higher ground.
But sometimes it's fine and appeared "on" the toppo "color" if I restart the program, I haven't figure it out yet.
Hope any sifus can advise on this.

My suggestion is do away with these toppo coloring, as it is redundant, as you zoom out a little,
you will see all the high land "highlighted" by the fine contour lines anyway,
beside, when you zoom in during actual jungle tracking, you want a clear screen with just the contour lines,
it is easy on the eyes with way-points and marking etc.

Hope antyoung will consider and modify this request?

Download MapSource v6.13.6 (F.O.C.) here:

Main page & Instruction:
http://openmtbmap.org/tutorials/install-mapsource/

Just Download:
http://www.gawisp.com/perry/mapsource/MapSource_6136.exe

INSTALATION:
1. Download Map Source version 6.13.6
2. Unpack or extract the content using 7zip (http://www.7zip.org), WinRAR. (DO NOT USE WinZip)
3. Using WINDOWS Explorer (Not INTERNET Explorer!!) go to the extracted files, first run MAIN.msi.
4. Then, run Setup.exe.
Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error.
5. Garmin MapSource is now installed.
6. Attention, Mapsource will not start until you have a at least one map installed.
So download the MFM mapset(Road) and/or MFM-SRTM (Toppo) map(s) of your choice.
