Problem installing MFM map into Nuvi12xx

hi,
I brought a Garmin Nuvi 1240 in UK which came with UK and Europe maps. Now i had bring the GPS back to Malaysia and wish to install a Malaysia Maps into it. May I know is this map can be use for my GPS?

I know that, i follow ur instruction to install the map. However, my gps still can't read it.

Did you install the map in Nuvi or data card? Can you verify that the folder is labeled as Map not Maps? And also make sure the folder is created at the root directory (top-most directory in a hierarchy).

well i install it into Nuvi and i labled the folder as u told 'Map'. but i cant find the root directory. Folders that i saw in my device are Garmin, GPX, Help, JPEG, Keyboards, Poi, Reports, Text, Vehicle and voice.

Those folders are in fact residing at the root directory, so \Map folder should the same level as the above folders.

However, my gps still can't read it.

oh...ok. i get what u say. yup, i do create a folder at the root directory, and the map doest nt exist in the map info. which mean i cant search any destination in m'sia. i just can see m'sia highway only.

I got the Map with City and State name, then also Highways road only. However, there's no detail and street in every city and states. Beside, it also show zero point of interest, and the destination cant search in address too.
i download the installer then install it to my computer. during installation, i choose full customisation for the display option. then i click yes to create g.mapsupp.img. after that generate the map with the option that i choose & it automatically copy it to my GPS device. then i saw the gmapsupp was in the Garmin folder then i do as u say create n Map folder in the root directory & copy n paste the gmapsupp in to the Map folder.

Try replacing GMAPSUPP.IMG in Nuvi:\Map folder with GMAPSUPP.IMG from C:\Garmin\Malfreemaps folder.

I re-install the map, and now it can read the map already
i think i done some mistake during the 1st installation process.
