I think their map will not related to lane assist or junction view feature.
Garmin need compile their map because it has most detail map than garmin navigator map.
for lane assist or junction feature will make it into Garmin Navigator sin/Mal map.
When u buy the nuvi from albright, you nuvi will have preload with
Garmin Navigator Sin/Mal map + Garmin compiled MSM map + JCV (junction view)

This is all big brother's efforts to curb 'piracy'. Just look at Microsoft, Magnum, Astro, car companies etc. Every once in a while, they put out new 'updates' that will curtail 'pirates' like us :finga: who break from the establishment. If you look at car companies, they use computers and software to eliminate the 'cherry tree' operators so likewise Garmin will eventually come out with more sophisticated and complicated features that will make our efforts seem obsolete.

So the question is whether we want to continue serving the community who probably own thousands of current gpsrs or play ball by aligning ourselves with big brother. Frankly, I feel we should just carry on until we're no longer relevant and people start turning away or until our Sifus come out with another method of keeping us current which I don't doubt they will. Pressure back on you Antyong :prayer:

When Garmin first came out with the Nuvi and made it and the Streetpilot models unable to read addresses from "pirate" maps, we did not die did we? We came out with a workaround and used that for almost 2 years before we were finally able to compile maps with proper addresses. In comparison to "Lane Assist", the search address handicap was more severe in my opinion.

The bulk of Malaysian Garmin users uses the Nuvi 200 series. Do you think Garmin is so charitable to provide their customers with new firmwares to support "Lane Assist"? It is only reasonable for Garmin to push sales though new features. Many Malaysians will not be able to enjoy the new feature unless they are willing to fork out their hard-earned money for new gadgets.

It is never a question, dilemma or pressure for me. The mapping community exist because a small group of people find drawing lines that can be made into GPS maps interesting. We don't exist to serve or please the general public. Our main focus is still to make our maps more detailed and updated.

Well said.

And it is free to be use by everyone \:D/ - and not be branded a free loader for not being able to contribute. Most important [-o< - Free to add and update - (by contributing places you feel useful).

just called up and confirmed that the garmin compiled malsing maps are locked and will be available to only local units sold. this means that very likely even mappers from the other side will not be able to get their hands on it. :tease:

mr. antyong is right to protect the interest of the mappers.

i wonder how much $$$ was involved. 4 or 5 figure?

wonder how the $$$ will be split.

johnTan wrote:No lah ! just can't believe they really Passed their map to Garmin.
