Yup 720p is better

on the contrary, 720p is better on a HD ready set, but on full HD sets, 1080i is the best choice as the de-interlacer will convert 720p signal to 1080i signal flawlessly and you will see much more detail and color depth compared to 720p.

I can attest that it certainly not so on my 2009 FULL HD Samsung Series 7.

I find the 720p setting on the decoder shows non-HD channels better than at 1080i.

At 1080i setting, the picture of non-HD channels becomes fuzzy.

I dont find any perceptible difference between 720p and 1080i when it comes to HD channels.

hmm...interesting. maybe different TVs interpret the signals differently. I'm using a FULL HD LG and prefer 1080i to 720p for both SD & HD channels. 1080i is very evident especially in History HD and NatGeo HD where clarity and color depth is concerned.

p.s. i use the intelligent sensor setting, exclusive to LG LCDs that automatically adjust picture quality, i.e. contrast, brightness, sharpness, etc corresponding to the input source and time of day, light emission, etc.

Dunno what Astro did but suddenly yesterday all the SD (non-HD) channels looked better than before (sharper, clearer).

It didn't only start yesterday.

I compared Astro Beyond with old Astro Normal Non-HD programs when I first installed Beyond and found that the Beyond NON-HD programs are generally clearer and sharper. Some are just as bad.

Got my dotter a new normal (non-beyond) decoder and even this one is better than the old Astro Normal.
