Postby spiker » Fri Dec 25, 2009 2:07 am

Can anyone help to explain the function for this selection (MSAS / WAAS) ?

(MSAS) Multi-functional Satellite Augmentation System > an individual GPS receiver is able to correct its own position, offering a much greater accuracy. Typically GPS signal accuracy is improved from some 20 meters to approximately 1.5–2 meters in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions

(WAAS) Wide Area Augmentation System > is an air navigation aid developed by the Federal Aviation Administration to augment the Global Positioning System (GPS), with the goal of improving its accuracy, integrity, and availability. Essentially, WAAS is intended to enable aircraft to rely on GPS for all phases of flight, including precision approaches to any airport within its coverage area

Both function does not apply in Malaysia.

I dun find any different between Normal mode and WAAS/EGNOS mode for Nuvi. But for 60CSx, enable WAAS/EGNOS mode will give much more stable accuracy, however, some user said that it drain the battery more faster.

As extracted from Garmin 60Csx Manual, page 97

Last paragraph tells it.

GPS Mode...what does it mean?

Postby Immortal25 » Sun Nov 27, 2011 3:15 pm

In the system settings and under gps mode of my garmin nuvi 1460, it has Normal, GPS off and MSAS/WAAS. I'm curious what that 3rd option does?
