Dear Members, I heard a rumour that the gps service we enjoy so much is going to be discontinued. The source said she heard it on astro. Is this true?

Can you authenticate your statement with some references ie.. what program, what source ?
Besides NAVSTAR which is run by the US Military, there are 4 to 5 more GPS constellations Satellites run by other countries .. Galileo, Beidou, Compass, Glonass, IRNSS, etc....
With the world so dependent on satellite navigation, do you think whether this / these will be discontinued ?

Without the satellites (GPS), the US drones can't find Osama and they (USA) also can't launch missile attack.

Some rumor said that our GPSr chipset manufacturer like SIRF, MTK, etc do pay some sort of loyalty to the "owner" of the GPS satellite. Is it true?

Does not make sense, the GPS chipset is like a car engine to a complete car, it is what that makes it run.
If the GPS satellite service provider wants to charge "user fees" it has to be on the GPS consumer sets manufacturers and not the GPS ChipSets which are generic and works with any constellation network.

So, is there any other financial income for GPS Sat operator (aka US Air Force) beside funding from US government?
