Guys for the 205w, i think its better not to flash it to SG firmware for now. Seems like the newer batch of 205w have problems with the flashing.

I already killed my 205w already. Stuck at white screen.. can never get the USB to detect my unit (slide and hold dont work), therefore unable to re-flash back the original firmware.

There is a few tricks/pre-requisites to the conversion which is not documented that I learnt over a year of messing with firmware.

1. Never use WebUpdater tool to update any language files or others before as the WebUpdater (from Garmin US site) is meant for US sets, not Asia sets.
2. Remove SD card prior to any flashing/conversion.
3. Remove all non-default POIs/Maps.
4. Use the 255W conversion approach, which is to backup and remove all language folders (\Garmin\VOICE and \Garmin\TEXT).
5. DO NOT USE WebUpdater to update any language files or others even after successful conversion. DO NOT COPY back the language files from the backup earlier on, instead of use in the blog.

PS: Such activity is always dangerous to perform and there is always a possibility to brick the set. Thus, unless you are very very sure of how to do and prepared to take the risk.

I get stuck now, any one can help? try google the forum, saw some bro have similiar problem however not able to get any cue how to cure it. tried a few cure firmware but it doesn't work .... :ko:

This works for the 255W and 265W/T USA versions. I successful converted my refurbished Garmin 265WT to Singapore firmware v2.60. I have JV installed. Follow the blog instructions closely.

For new batch of 205W, you have to try at your own risk. So far as i know, 200W is unable to do the flash.

For those people who own an older batch of 205W and wanna try the firmware flash, please follow exactly the blog instruction for the testing purpose. It is better for you to print out the page and read the step by step when doing it. The most likely mistake where people made would be the step 5 and step 8, please take note of this.

The whole idea of this flash process (for testing purpose only) is

US Unit 205W firmware (HWID 0827) --> US Unit 2W firmware 2.80 --> Unit 2W firmware 2.30 (SG unit) --> Unit 2W firmware 2.60 (run manually update after download 255W firmware 2.60 from garmin sg website).

Hope this will help the user who wanna try it, and try at your own risk.

The units that experience white screens have the latest mainboard S4. You'll just have to check your mainboard version before doing anything. I read the information from another forum. There is a very detailed tutorial available on pda4x.com that tells you how to enable JCV, lane assist and even Text to speech on the 205W.

http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=106758

You'll have to register to access the page but I think it is worth every second.

Edit:

Sorry, I didn't know that pda4x has closed its registration. If you want, I can ask for permission to post the tutorial on this forum.
