Have you tried a different PC / Lappy just to confirm that the USB port of your Nuvi not having problem ?

You can still put MFM map by putting the map file into SD card/map directory and then rename the file to any name.

If you download the USB drivers from Garmin and install them in your PC, it may help.

Why are you asking for help on Malsingmap at the MalFreeMap site? Isn't that like going to Volvo to ask for help on BMW?

no, the problem is the mfm map is easy just retrieve the sd card then install in, just the malsingmap is build in into garmin set, pc need to detect the garmin set only can update. I have reset the garmin set then now my pc only can detect the garmin. how come like this？ because last time I also reset before only can detect, after few months, then the hv to reset again? don't know why?

Malsingmap is not built into the set. Your vendors have decided to preload the maps into the main memory because the GPS is sold without the SD cards. You can move the Malsingmaps into the SD card or load the updates into the SD card and not bother with the internal memory ever again.

Since your PC cannot recognise your GPS, there is no need to move the maps - just ignore them by not selecting them. Touch Tools/Settings/Map/Info and uncheck the City Navigator and MSM NT maps then switch off your GPS.

Before you switch on your GPS again, insert your SD card which you have prepared using a card reader. You should have created in your SD card a folder named \Garmin and copied the MFM map named gmapsupp.img into this \Garmin folder.

Then you can switch on your GPS and if you touch Tools/Settings/Map/Info, you will now see that the MFM map is the only map that is checked.

Thereafter, you only need to update the map in your SD card and don't need to connect your GPS to your PC for the purpose of updating maps.
