USB cable is the biggest suspect but it can easily be ascertained if you hear an audio acknowledgement from your PC that USB has been detected and software has been installed for it. If so, then USB may not be the problem.
I would reboot (RESTART) the PC.

It could be a USB driver problem. You may need to uninstall the USB and re-install it. refer to this link on how to remove USB drivers.

Use charging/data cable that came with handphones....it works for me!
