I wouldn't use the Garmin Edge. I recommend telenav for your gps friendly phone. I have telenav with AT&t and I can't live without it, literally. I have had a Garmin Edge and TomTom GO, and Telenav literally has at least twice the POI. I remember those expensive map updates too, telenav has FREE map, poi, voice, etc updates. I first saw TeleNav mentioned in the New York Times and then I went to their website:telenav.com $10/month is a great deal, especially considering it offers more features than a $600 standalone unit.

Can SE w715 support free maps? It has GPS built in and support google maps.

Perhaps the solution as far as the Edge goes... is have it for its cheaper price and carefully reconsider their $10 or equivalent to Ringgits, monthly subscription.

This way, you have this unit for pure cycle rides albeit if one likes the LiIon battery in it but you get lots of inclusions that supposedly overshadows those of Garmin's & TomToms features....
I wud have it as a spare for the occasion and if not in use, lend or rent out to friends only which should serve well in bridging more smiles and increase community friendship above all else....

I am also experiencing auto shutdown with Edge 705 in Kiara when using MFM map. I have no problem with other maps (MSM and MAsmap Aster). I have no problem with MFM in other areas. So far, I have narrowed the problem down to MFM in Kiara.
